I really want to start to replicate the 50s silhouette, and to do that I know that I need a good foundation to start. I bought a bullet bra perhaps a year ago from What Katie Did, but I was so nervous in it (didn't help that my roommate made catty comments about how I looked), that I eventually gave it away. I'm in a better place these days, and I want to try again, but with small baby steps and perhaps some research :)

1. What's a good bullet bra or cone bra to start off with that's not so pointy at the tips?

2. What kind of material needs to be worn over a bullet or cone bra to really flatter the shape?

3. What else can I get to the shape?

Please keep in mind I have a really weird bra size, measuring at 30DD, and don't ask me to go to sister size because 32D is way too big on.

Please help

Why is 30DD weird?  It's your bra size, and there's nothing weird about boobs :)

I'm in the market for a more 50's silhouette after buying my first vintage dress over the weekend, my issue is that I need something that has no/very thin straps as my new dress has spaghetti-style straps.

I've been told that Triumph's 'Doreen' bra gives a good shape without being too "in someone else's face", because it still has three-part construction, but uses modern methods & materials (my personal issue with going down that route is the lack of matching panties, I'm OCD about matching sets)

Other than that, I think the only options are What Katie Did (who do bullet bras in a surprising range of sizes, given their 'regular' sizes stop at DD, or sometimes E at a push), and perhaps Secrets in Lace, though I've not looked at their range in a while.

I didn't mean anything negative by it, haha. I just meant that I can't go shop at some of the usual stores because of my small underbust. Like Secrets in Lace, many of the bras I'vent looked at stop at the 32 underbust size.

I've also heard some things about the Doreen! I'm going to definitely check that one out further.

I'd go with the Harlow Bullet Bra from What Katie Did if you want to start adjusting to a bullet bra (would you call that bullet bra training?).

This was the first one I bought and even with the cone shaped inserts to sew into the cups it's still going to give you a subtle point under a sweater or a low to no cleavage dress and not something that will put your friends or partners eyes out ;) I hope that helps!

Ah, thank you. I think I found your review on this bullet bra while doing some research and it was very helpful! A few quick questions, I think I read somewhere that bullet bras make your chest look smaller? In your opinion, is this true? As well, is there certain material or clothes you have to wear with this bra so it looks its best?
