Hello Ladies -
While work is trying to figure out how I can blog without breaking the policy acknowledgement that I signed, I'd like to get started (I have my composition book & file folder for pics ready to go!! along with fresh new pens!)... So I am posing the following questions to you so I know where to go and how to run this blog:
1. Are there any mall stores/internet sites in particular that you would like me to review and update on (ie, Forever 21, Lane Bryant, H&M, Macy's, etc)?
2. What sizes are we looking for? (I need an idea of the size range to cover so that no one is left out! :) )
3. What types of clothing/accessories are we looking for (day to day PUG style, special occasion, formal, etc)
4. What type of blog best works for you - written with pics, video, a combo of both?
5. Would you like me to include finds from vintage stores, thrift stores, 99cent type stores, etc?
6. Did I miss anything?
Please let me know so I can get started this week... I will look @ using Wordpress for the actual blog, and will post the link to our blog page here on this site, but how would you like to be informed of when a new blog is posted - do you want to friend me, so I can post it on my status updates, or post it here in the main forums area....?
Also, I would like to include tutorials on how to do stuff - by me, by others - included in the blog. Is there anything in particular - minus hair and makeup, because those are covered here - that you would like a tutorial on? I think my first one will be on how to make sweater guards... Right now, until I get a video/camera, it will be done as a (way cool) Powerpoint presentation - does this work for you?
Ok, I've thrown a lot out there - please please please take the time to answer so I can make this blog something for everyone!
Thanks - Jenn
PS: name suggestions - both for the blog and a PUG name for me would be great!!!

1. - All those stores sound great, and maybe Target too?
2. I'm usually an XS or a S in mall sizes
3. Day to day for me...
4. Combo of both sounds fun!
5. Yeah. The more good deals, the more money I'll have left over to save for PUG!
Just my two cents ;)
Oh PS- Any crafty and/or sewing tutorials would be much loved. I love making things at home and having things that are one-of-a-kind :)
1) Those mentioned plus Target, JCPenney, Belk (if you have access and inclination)
2) Anywhere L to 2X for me, depending on how the sizing runs
3) Day to day. It's not hard to dress up, but more difficult to figure out how to incorporate the look into work clothes without feeling silly or over the top
4) Written with pics is best. I really dislike video blogs and rarely watch them. Maybe on occasion if you're going to demonstrate how a skirt twirls :)
5) Sure, although thrift and vintage finds are often more luck of the draw and individualized, instead of something that's likely to be available for a lot of people to find at their favorite shopping destinations. I read a lot of vintage blogs and are always happy to see what they find, but also a bit disappointed when I know it's something I'll NEVER be able to buy for myself. The looks can offer inspiration, though :)
Thank you to the ladies who replied....
My blog is called "Vintage Girl Shops a Modern World" and I'm going to be using Wordpress (working out the kinks and will post the full address/link later).
I think I'm going with the byline "Double O Jenn". I kinda like it, but if you ladies have any other suggestions, I'm open!
The first "issue" will be an intro one and will appear this weekend; I'll post here, on my status, and on the blogs page. The 2nd one will use the inspiration of Lucille Ball (who most don't think of as a pin-up, but you should see her pics!). That's the format that I'm going with - picking a lady (IRL or past) that is inspiring in their style, and finding items that would help us emulate them now. I finally figured out this would give a more defined way of proceeding, because I was just going balls out and that was turning into a cluster of craziness. I will also have links to 1. ebay finds (with time left to buy/bid), 2. etsy sites/shops of the week 3. and more, but I'll include all that info in the intro issue.
So yay! I've got about 30 pics of Lucy downloaded and going to print to take with me so I can have a reference point... And I'm excited - I think I know just wear to start! (pun intended!)
Thanks again for responding!!
Jenn <3
PS: Sarah, would it be better if I do find something in a thrift store that they would be willing to ship out, listing it w/ pics and the store's contact info? That way you don't always miss out on thrift finds... Also thought we could probably work out a way that if there is something I find that you can't live without, I can pick it up and ship it to you and you could reimburse me through paypal. Just a thought, although I totally understand. =)
Ok, dames & dolls -
I have the very first intro blog done and up! As someone who's never done this before, it's been an interesting (and educational) morning. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE: let me know what works, what doesn't, what you like, what you don't... also, if you mind advertising on the page (it's not currently there, but I am considering it, as it would bring in a little more income, which we could all use!)...
Hey lady,
I like your background image. Your page/blog title (Vintage Girl Shops a Modern World) is hard to read with it being laid right on top of the picture background - maybe if you could get a solid color block behind it?
Also, the handwritey/slanty style of text for your main content and your intro/bio on the side is kind of hard to read. My personal preference for large blocks of text is a more standard-looking font to increase legibility, and save the specialty fonts for big headers only. Maybe if the font were a shade or two darker to add contrast against the green block background would also help it to be more readable.
Looking forward to future content, and this is a great start :)
I would second this. I couldn't read it at all :/
Thanks girls - that's what I needed to know. I personally love funky fonts, but I can see that they would be difficult for everyone to read, which is why I asked. I'm trying to figure out a way to either lighten the background tiles (kind of a washed out/faded coloring) and/or darken the title font - both if I can figure it.
If there is anything else, please let me know. Also, how do ya'll feel about appropriate advertising on the page (maybe along the sidebars?)? Would this not be something you would want or is it something you feel "who cares?" about? Please let me know.
Thanks again!! xoxo
OK, LADIES -
Made some changes to the blog's template... the only thing I couldn't really change is the fading of the background. I think I need to modify the pic itself, then upload it, so I will play with that and see if it works (if you look where the blog text is, you'll see it's faded - that's what I'm trying to do... any suggestions would help!). I did darken the title, change the font, played with some colors. Let me know what ya'll think!
Thanks - xoxo
Also - the advertising question - would REALLY APPRECIATE your thoughts on this!!
all the fashion/opinion blogs I've read have advertising.
it doesn't affect if I read the blog or not.
Wow it looks great, Jen! I don't mind advertising. I love what you've done so far. I can't wait to continue reading it!
Hey there ladies -
Here's an interim post "Get 'Em While They're Hot!" on vintagegirl: http://vintagegirlshopsamodernworld.blogspot.com/
Let me know what ya'll think!
