At multiple points in my life I've intended to go on a massive shopping spree and buy myself tons of makeup. After all I love it and I see so many girls do amazing things with it on here. Somehow i always end up spending my money on something else like PUG or Hell Bunny or an amazing new pair of shoes.
I have however always thought that less is more. All I really want in terms of closet and makeup are a few awesome quality basic essentials that I can't live without. Since I have enough clothes at the moment, I've decided to turn my attention to my makeup for real this time.
Right now I have four sticks of lipstick one of which is now 5 years old but is my favorite because it's cherry (it literally smells like cherry!)
Two I got in a buy one get one free sale two years ago and they are my favorites as they are great everyday shades. Not too bright and not to dim.
One is black and was given to me as a gift from a former goth girl who's gone into hipster style! I've never worn it but I fully intend to at some point as it was a gift.
I also have a khol stick (black) an eyeliner pen (black) four shades of nail polish (black, red, blue, shiny green)
Four eyeshadows although three are pallettes with a couple of colors, the oldest is 5 years old, the newest is 2 years old.
One pallet of blush with two colors but neither suit me at all. In fact both look really awful if I put more than a smidge on at once because I have very pale skin. My sister who has ruddy skin on the other hand can wear both and they match her skin (so when I replace it I need something fairly pink instead of red)
I also have a mascara that i received as a gift for my birthday last year I've used it twice as it's too thick for my long lashes and I think it makes me look like a hooker. I would be happy to wear a lighter one though!
Moisturizer I can't live without. I have a nightcream, day cream, and fully body moisturizer, I can only use full organic as I've got super sensitive skin but this I always use.
(That's my full collection) I've also got a vaseline lipgloss but that's more essential for winter here.
So, with that in mind, I've decided that I'm going to throw out all of my makeup and start fresh
What I would like to know are your
a. Favorite Brands
b. Makeup essentials (items you can't live without)
c. Essential colors (mine will be black and red and green )
Thanks loves!

I'm a product junkie, and I highly recommend Sephora for most of your product needs, but here are some of my pared down recommendations :)
1) Guerlain Maxi Lash mascara. It smells amazing, goes on clump-free, is light, and lasts a long time without flaking.
2) Nars for powder or cream blush. "Orgasm" is a universally flattering shade, but I also like the peachy "Deep Throat." Nars also has really pretty lipstick colors.
3) Clinique makes really natural-looking lipsticks and blushes, as well as gentle skincare products.
4) I love Josie Maran's line. It's organic and most products have Moroccan argan oil in them, which is great for skin, hair, nails, lips, you name it. Her face stick is a great multi-tasker. I have fair skin, and it's rosy color looks good swiped on cheeks and lips. Very natural. She also makes great moisturizers with broad-spectrum SPF, and the pure argan oil is great. The argan oil illuminizer also gives a great soft glow when mixed into tinted moisturizer, foundation, or used alone.
Miss Slayfield's two cents:
a. My favorite brands: Maybelline Eye Stiletto is the best basic black liquid eye liner I've found (if they're out of it, my back up is Rimmel London). The best red lip colors I've found are Clinique "Red Red Red" and YSL "Moulin Rouge", while I always end up using Burt's Bees Lip Shimmer in Peony or Caramel for a more natural lip with shine. Best green nail polish in the universe is Revlon's "Posh". And I used to be snooty about nail polish and only use nothing less than OPI or Sally, but I discovered recently that Loreal has stepped it up and has some gorgeous, really saturated shades (my new favorite is called "Not A Cloud In Sight", but I think it should've just been named "robin's egg"). Smashbox has the best eye shadow ever.
b. Can't-Live-Withouts: Bare Minerals powder foundation and translucent finish (though Loreal is an excellent backup and easier to carry around for touch ups); eye cream for highlighting; black liquid liner; eyebrow pencil and tamer; good quality tweezers; a good quantity of Q-tips; an eye shadow palette that includes a good nude for highlighting brow bones, a couple of versatile daytime lid colors, and then a deep blue or purple for night; a really saturated red lip color; a long-wearing and moisturizing gloss that can be worn alone or over other shades. For removal I LOVE the Olay Cleansing cloths.
c. My essential colors are black, purple, green, and blue (wish I could wear green on my eyelids, but I have green eyes so green shadow makes them look dull - I usually go with green nail polishes).
Um, I guess I really like make-up. Have fun replenishing your collection! I'm a little jealous ;).
Kelly
thanks for the advice ladies! I'm going to make a list in the next few weeks and then make all of my purchases in the first week of september
