Hello everyone.  I hope I'm posting this in the right place.

My wife surprised me recently when I brought up the idea of her taking a pinup photo session, and she said "OK".  Imagine, after 29 years of "happily married" (and three kids), we're finally getting around to celebrating her beauty with a picture or two.

My dilemma (and I think hers as well), is we don't know how to go about doing it right.  There are three parts to the dilemma:

  1. What to wear?  I've shown her tasteful pictures of the types of pinups I like but neither one of us knows anything about the clothing.  Bustiers, corsets, shoes... it's all a mystery to me.  My wife sort of recedes when it comes to decisions about lingerie and when I ask what her size is she's never sure.  So, I can't really order anything with confidence.  I know it doesn't make any sense, especially when you consider how long we've been together (high school sweethearts), but it's just kind of a squirrely topic.
  2. How to pick a photographer?  I've looked online and the boudoir photographers in our area are basically wedding photographers.  Is that good enough?  I wouldn't be at the photo shoot because I wouldn't want to affect my wife's ability to open up, but I want to make sure I trust the person behind the camera.
  3. How much to spend?  Is there an amount I should set as "reasonable" for such a photo shoot?  What should we get for the money?  I'm not cheap, but I want to make sure we're not being taken to the cleaners.

I appreciate any light you might be able to shine on my questions.  Perhaps others have gone through this before.  If so, would you share your experiences and advice?

Thanks

Everyone is different, but my here are mu 2cents...

Regarding 1: I wouldn't want my husband to order any lingerie that anyone else (e.g., a photographer) will see -- sorry. If your wife is up for it, explain the elements you like, give her plenty of time and money, and let her go to a good store to get help finding quality items.

Regarding 2: I'd want the photographer to be a woman (well, if I were willing to do such a thing at all ;-).

I don't know anything about 3.

My husband is actually a decent photographer, but a lot of the "magic" is done after the shooting proper, when touching things up in Photoshop and what not. When selecting your photographer I'd ask to see not only his final portfolio, but also how the pictures looked before touch-ups.  I know for myself I like fairly heavy "intervention", but that may not be the case for everyone.
