Hi Ladies

I'm new to this, and can't believe I haven't come across PUG before. I'm in the UK, and have always worn vintage inspired pieces (a lot of Cath Kidston), classic 40's and 50's style cuts etc... I want to get more in to it - I'm not yet 31, have two children 18 months apart who are both under 3 (so grubby hands /washing is a big thing!). I'm currently a UK 16-18 but have started a running course to slim down slightly to be more a 14-16 (for health reasons as much as being able to buy more clothes that I know will fit from ebay, etc... when I find a steal!). I'm in easy reach of the War & Peace show - if anyone has heard of it (i'm unsure how big the UK contingency to this site is at the mo!!) and we dress up every year as my mother-in-law collects and displays coach built prams, so we go the whole hog!

I really want to know more about where I can find PUG and other gems in the UK (london is 45 mins by train so not to difficult!). I have pretty long, naturally curly hair, so can do pretty much anything with it - but I'm struggling on some of the tutorials I've found on youtube as none of them seem to start from the absolute beginning - their hair is dry and seems 'straightened' and then they show a style, instead of straight out of the bath wet - what do I do then to stop it being a frizzy mess to begin with! Any help/tips/product recommendations would be sooo appreciated - as I'm pretty much starting out I want to get it right. I've just done it as and when before so have bobby pins, few brushes, but along with the dresses/dressing I want to do it more as part of my 'life' if you see what I mean.

I was inspired to write after seeing Lee Anne's post - but wanted to add the UK element to see if there are any others who could point me in the right direction (meet up at War & Peace etc...!!!)

I hanker after an awful lot on this site, and other brands via ebay, but am a little nervous about bidding/buying due to size differences as I'd be so disappointed if they didn't fit :(

As far as the curly hair goes, Angelique Noir here on PUG has some awesome curly/natural hair tutorials on her youtube! I have curly hair also, and if I don't want to harm it blowdrying or ironing straight and don't feel like being too too curly, I'll use magnetic rollers when I'm out of the shower and do a wet roller set, just being sure to stretch the curl straighter as I roll. Not sure if you have the time for that, but it works for me!

Sorry, I was posting from my phone before, so I couldn't post proper links BUT

Not sure how curly your hair is, but this is a cute 'do from Angelique, I feel like it would work no matter the curl. My hair is less curly that hers and it still works! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZvdoAd6Akn4

Magnetic rollers are just plastic rollers, just called magnetic because the wet hair sticks to them like it's magnetised!

If you know how to rollerset your hair, you can do loads of different sets for different looks with magnetic rollers :D

If you want to sleep in rollers and don't like the plastic ones (I don't blame you) you can always use foam or silk rollers, or pincurls. I prefer the magnetic, because it makes my hair the smoothest, but that's just personal preference.

You can find them at any beauty supply in any width you like and they are awfully inexpensive! I buy different widths and make sure I get roller clips as well, which are these little guys

Oh magnetic rollers are just smooth plastic, like this:

But try a bunch of different kinds, you can get different results from different styles of rollers :D

I'm curious about the 1, 2, 3, day thing as well!

xoxo

Hi Renee!

I am also from the UK (Northamptonshire to be exact), I'm not great with hair yet but can give you some advice on buying PUG.  I've managed to acquire a few PUG Clothing items through Ebay, you can use the official pinupgirlclothing site for sizing advice as it is excellent.  PUG is very hard to get hold of in shops in the UK & it is extremely pricey, the best places I've come across (online) are Deadly is the Female & Hollywood Flame.  I have ordered PUG dresses from Europe before as Holland in particular has a lot of online shops stocking the brand.  Topvintage.nl and fiftiesstore.com are both brilliant & I've received orders within 3 days from them before!  Of course, you can't beat the official pinupgirlclothing site, but customs/import tax is a major problem, I'm currently saving up to do a large order from them with free postage to try & help with the extra charges.

In the UK London has Collectif & Vivien of Holloway, Limb Clothing is also worth checking out. I'm starting to sway more towards PUG clothing now though as their designs are so much fun :-) And as they are harder to get hold of over here people are less likely to be wearing the same thing as you at events!

If I look for vintage clothes on Ebay I NEVER bid on anything that doesn't have the exact measurements listed.  If in doubt I message the seller.  Vintage repro brands like PUG aren't so bad as if it is not in the listing you can often find sizing advice on the web somewhere.  I research the sizing of every dress I am interested in before I buy it (which is important for me as, like you, I am inbetween sizes :-( lol).  Hope any of this helps!! x

Hi again Renee, if you are after separates PUG clothing and Collectif are the best I've come across. Collectif are affordable but the sizing is hit and miss. If you want help with the sizing of any of their stuff message me because chances are I have it or a similar version! Miss Fortune do good separates and retrovixens stock separates from US brands like Heartbreaker. I struggle too with jeans as I am pear shaped and skinny styles don't flatter me. I have a trusted pair of low waisted wide leg jeans that look fine with pinup tops and a high waisted Collectif pair, but I can't wear it on a 'fat day'! I tend to stick to high waisted skirts instead mainly! Although I have a couple of pairs of capris to try this summer (if we ever get one!) x
