Take one of your skirts to the store and try it on with different undergarments so you can actually see what will look more smooth under them...shapewear usually looks nice because it smooths everything out and makes you look more toned but sometimes you'll see the details through the skirt which can kind of mess up the "smoothness" (like lace details or whatever).

With really tight skirts I like to wear long legged shapewear (ie shorts).  I have some "brief' type corselettes and I find that they leave indents around the hip area, where the leg meets the hip and doesn't leave as smooth of a line as I would like.  but the longer leg smoothes everything out and doesn't leave creases.

Go seamless! Doesn't matter what just make sure you're comfortable in it :) I personally prefer to wear high waist seamless shorts but if it's an important date I'll usually go with what Cela does and wear control shorts because even if you don't have anything to hide, it does amazing things for the way the skirt sits on you :)
