Sorry to be so nosy, but I am a little curious about what parts of the world everyone here lives in because I am interested to know what sort of reception PUG and just wearing repro in general gets in other countries!
I live in Australia but have been living in Moscow, Russia for nearly two months. In Australia I live in Brisbane and I am yet to run into anyone dressed remotely vintage. Most of the time when I go out I get a lot of stares which normally ends up with me dishing out a lot of glares because I hate it when people stare...lol. Normally teenagers can be pretty nasty, but every now and then you do get some sweet person that comes up to chat about what I'm wearing. What is it like where you live, what kind of reactions do you get when you wear vintage/reproduction clothing? Are there others that wear anything similar?
In Russia I have gotten some stares from wearing PUG, but only in the good sense I think! I have noticed that there are quite a few women here usually in their 30s, who wear either real vintage (50s and 60s style) or modern vintage inspired dresses. On one occasion I saw a man in his 40s wearing what looked like completely authentic vintage 1950s/early 60s, dressed for a day at the office. Now keeping in mind that Russia is a developing nation, it could be that his look was completely unintentional and thrifted on account of how poor people are here, but either way he looked fantastic!
So what is it like in your parts of the world? I am really curious to know!

I live in the north of Sweden in a city called "Skellefteå", but I spend most of my time in Östersund where my boyfriend lives:)
Here it's not very uncommon with pinup and rockabilly but I often gets looks, and older men is crazy about me in pin up (little bit scary actually)
I live in the Netherlands and while it is NOT okay to wear vintage on a daily basis (you will be the center of all disapproving attention) LOL I've actually had people come up to me and tell me that I have to stop being a child of Satan and so on... but that was some weird guy , most of them are nice or more polite about it (and I was wearing nothing more risque than a Jessica with a pair of heels and a belt with my hair done up)
On the other hand if you go to the little festivals and so vintage is pretty much embraced. You see lots of hell bunny and Voodoo Vixen, very little pug but I guess it's hard to come by here :)
Hey Harlow,
Sorry I'm so late on the uptake with this discussion. I just had to jump in and say that I recognise you from Uni, we had an Australian Film tutorial together. You always looked so glamourous!
I have to agree with you about people staring but I feel most of the time it's not meant as insulting but because what we wear is out of the ordinary. I do get compliments though and it's nice to know that you look good especially after commiting to wearing a petticoat on a Brisbane summer's day! I, like Cela, find that I often get compliments after reminding older people of their youth. My favourite compliment was when an elderly lady stopped me at the supermarket. She told me she had to let me know that her husband thought my dress was pretty and that so few young women wore classy dresses these days.
I've never put a whole lot of stock in what other people thought about what I wear and love to dress this way because it makes me feel good.
I live in Fresno California. USA. We have every kind of style here. But our summers get superhot, 115 degrees hot, so I'd say a majority of people wear shorts and tees/tanks/hoochie tops. I try to avoid the sun as much as possible so I don't tan :)
My love (lost) was in a Rockabilly band. I'm not really Rockabilly, I'm more vintage, but we still matched each other. Le sigh.
Central North Carolina, close to Raleigh, by way of the mountains of Virginia. Hillbilly all the way!
I'm from Connecticut, which I've heard has a HUGE vintage/rockabilly scene.
But I currently live in Florida (eugh) and there is NOTHING PUGgy about it. I'm the only one who ever dresses remotely vintage and I always get nasty looks or perverted ones.
But I don't let that stop me from looking glamorous whenever I can!
