If you have a long torso you may be pulling them up too high. Try towering them a little and see if that's more comfortable. I didn't have that problem with any of the shorts but I have a shorter torso.

they seem to be made for ladies with a medium hip to waist difference, Mine are too big on the waist and thighs but great on the hip area :) 

but I have a 10" difference between hip and waist and I have really spindly thighs ha , you can probably have the waist taken in by a tailor for $20 or less

yeah, I have a bit of an issue with the high waisted trousers being a perfect fir everywhere and then tight in the crotch. But the next size up feels baggy, so I have been hesitant to try the shorts.
