I think you're referring to Hawaiian/island culture of wearing the flower. I heard its a myth with a story dating back to war times... Right means you're available, left means you're taken, similar to wedding ring

In the pinup realm, I don't think there is that same reference.

I've honestly warn them all over my head, on either side, high, low, even on the back a few times. It would have been so funny if for all these years I'd been giving off signals and messages that I was completely clueless about :)

Either way it's a fun topic to bring up for discussion and I LOVE the reference pics you posted too :)

Good morning ladies, thank you all for your replies! I worn the flowers over both ears, on the side of a high ponytail or bun or even several of them as a crown... just depends on the event or what I'm wearing. I was curious as to all what you've heard about it. Believe it or not, many of my male friends, especially military are the ones who uphold this old custom true to this day. They like to see ladies wear them on the appropiate side and not just for fashion. I have always heard the rose (or any other flower) reflects your relationship status just like rings.

It's about bow positioning though, not flowers, but perhaps it's the same. I don't believe this is widely known anymore though :D
