Smooth, sleek hairstyle silhouette tips?

Hi everyone!

I have been styling people's hair in Pin Up styles for about three months now, and I only am able to do dry styling (because of the time constraint). Which brings me to my problem point-

Every time I tease someone's hair up, (especially someone who has very fine or limp hair), it distorts the shine and sleekness of their hair in the overall silhouette. I try brush the hair back out, but then it ruins the tease of the hair, and lowers the volume

I have been using pomade to smooth it out, and then hairspray. I haven't used setting lotion, reallly, although I've heard good things about it. Maybe I just haven't found a good one yet.

Anyway - does anyone have any tips or ideas?
