I have the Vintage Hairstyling Retro Styles with Step-by-Step Techniques By Lauren Rennells and it's ok. There is a lot of info. But I find it hard to translate it to my own hair. I'm also a beginner. I've found that youtube videos work much better for me. I really like Lisa Freemontstreet and CherryDollFace. And I for modern looks I kinda like Kandee Johnson. She is sickeningly sweet and kinda annoying but her videos are pretty good.

Youtube videos have worked better for me as well. I like Ilovegerardo's videos in addition to TheCherryDollface because both of these ladies go into a lot of detail with directions and showing you what they are doing and not much silly random chit-chatting like other videos. =)
