Hi everyone!  I'm going to my first Viva Las Vegas this year!  I'm super excited.  I can't wait to shop and drool over everyone's clothes.  I was wondering if any of you have been to VLV?  Any advice for a first timer?  What to wear (I plan on changing a couple times a day haha)?  What to do?  I still have to come up with some outfits for hubby.  So far he has 2 vintage shirts and a fedora.  ;-)  I already decided I may have to fly Southwest - they let you check 3 bags for free and I may need one just for crinolines.  Hehe.

Awesome!  Thank you for the advice.  :-)

PS - yes we're staying at the Orleans.

Wow Billie lots of great advice. Haven't been yet only cuz its a bit expensive but want to go Sooo bad. And as for the mint scarf, theres a really cute sea foam green with white polka dot scarf on Modcloth.com that I've been eyeing.

Honestly, there are some tricks to saving money for Viva. Shop around for flights, Share your hotel room (split the cost, for 3 girls its only about $100), request a fridge for your room and stock it with goodies and drinks. Every year, the most $$ I spend is on vintage shopping. We try to to be cheap with other things.

And the scarf is cute! The one I missed out on was a hair type scarf and I can't find another one :/

Well me and my husband have been thinking about going but we heard its about $100 a person to get in all three days... and yea I have a hard time finding cute scarves for my hair too. That is heart breaking :(

Yes, the tickets are a little expensive, but they get more and more expensive the closer to Viva it gets. So get your ticket early! Its also been selling out early every year. The $$ for the ticket is worth it in my opinion cause it gives you access to everything. All the shows, the car shows, the vendors, the bowling, the classes, the pool party, the fashion show, the burlesque shows, everything (although, you do need seperate tickets for certain events, but you can get them free by showing your wristband). Its worth it, and if you get your tickets before hand, you don't feel the hit in your wallet as much.

Oh I didn't know that the price keeps going up. And that it gets u access to EVERYTHING. that's good to know. Thanks! Sounds like ur a VLV expert lol :)

Great advice.  Thanks.

My first time, too.. We can be VLV virgins together.

GREAT advice billie may! my first time to VLV was VLV 13, (also my first time to vegas!) and i couldnt agree more with your tips!!

buy the VLV shirt the first day, my dude missed out on his size by the end of it and was SO bummed. Pick up what you like when you see it, cuz i'm still missing a beautiful vintage skirt i let go :( so i feel your pain. and SUNSCREEN!! oh dear, i can't back this one up enough. I bought a parasol a bit too late and my shoulders/face got a nice burn.

but #1: HAVE FUN!! it's a great time, soak as much of it in as possible. you'll be hooked and have to make it a yearly thing!

I'm going over from Australia too. It will be my second  VLV. I loved it but found it pretty overwhelming the first time. So many people in one place at one time! Billie has posted some great advice. I'd also say.....Las Vegas is a desert and it's HOT. Drink lots and lots of water. Also buy alcohol and keep it in your room. It will be heaps cheaper than buying over the bar. Because of the late night partying, we found two meals a day was plenty. One late breakfast (about 11.30am) and then dinner. Save on money that way too.

Oooh! This will be our 3rd VLV. :)

I'd suggest staying at The Orleans, or staying at the Gold Coast (they have free shuttle service to The Orleans for the event).

It's nice to do 2 outfits a day, but in all honesty, I brought one SUPER comfortable vintage or PUG outfit and then had 1 or 2 options for night time events. I always do a ton of shopping though, since we're from Canada and pay a ton of duty/taxes on stuff I order in. (I tend to bulk shop at VLV!) I'm more to the tune of bringing what I know I'll be comfortable (and look nice in) and wearing an outfit all day, so that I can have extra room to purchase items from the vendors!

I do agree with the previous post though, bring FLATS! Either chuck taylors, cute ballet flats, or even flip flops! If you're going to heels for the car show event or for walking around, do a plat form, they'll keep your feet off the hot asphalt and your toes from burning!

I made the mistake of wearing closed-toe wedge heels one year, and my toes literally BAKED. It was super ouchy! Sandals are a must!

We're doing the pool party for the first time this year, so I'm really excited to plan my suit!!

Hope that helps.
