Hi ladies!
I'm writing an article for my website about how to begin creating your wardrobe (obviously if you don't already have one) and I wanted to get some opinions.
What were your first purchases? What are your favorite pieces, the staples in your personal wardrobe, your favorite online shops? Anything you feel like sharing about Pin Up Fashion! :)
Thanks so much!

Just for PUG? I started visiting the site about 5+ years ago, but found it very confusing. Back then it used to be organised by style eg. streetware then by brand (If I remember correctly) so it wasn't until about 2 or 3 years ago until i first took the plunge and ordered the DD polka dot halter, Doris top & the custest pair of wedges, all of which I still wear. Being in Australia I have to bulk order. Now though, my go to ensemble is the DD capris & vamp top. Comfy, casual and super sexy!
I remember that Lady! I started off with a black pencil skirt and a couple of dresses from PUG but currently my closet staples are vamp tops, my striped boatneck 3/4 sleeve top, high waist shorts and my DD cigarette pants. I tend to wear the black pair to work functions and the denim pair for going out at night. I have a bunch of the dresses but I admit I don't have the occasion to wear them out as much. The denim cigarette pants are my absolute favorite thing ever!
yeah, dresses are tricky. I used to have a lot of Stop Staring & other repo brands, but I have been selling them off because I live in a small town their is not a lot of places to wear them, even out to dinner I felt overdressed. I have started purchasing more casual PUG dresses so that I can wear them casually to the supermarket or dress them up with a pair of heels & out to dinner.
In general I wear a lot of pencil skirts and tank tops in the warmer months, and pencil skirts and sweaters in the cold. An important staple for me is a good pair of black flats (ballet flats or the like) that go with everything for a casual look.
My wardrobe staples list would go like this:
pencil skirts (in color that you like)
black patent flats
high heels
high waisted trousers (can be denim or a nicer material ie wool)
"cigarette" style jeans
a-line or circle skirt (knee or tea length) in color(s) of choice
petticoat for wearing under full skirts and dresses
tanktops
fitted tshirts in various colors
fitted sweaters
button down cardigan
wiggle style dress
"full skirt" (a-line or circle) dress
a vintage coat that can be worn over dresses/skirts
hosiery
I think that pretty much covers what I would call "staple", everything on top of that is gravy. I think that with these things someone could pull of the pinup or 1940s-1950s style without breaking the bank, which is crucial if you are starting to build your wardrobe. Most of the clothes I wear, I find at thrift stores or second hand clothing stores. Most of the staples can be found second hand or from the local mall or other "big-box" store.
