A lot of things have got in the way for my new-found hobby sewing, but I'm finally able to show you my first dress.

In November I got wind of that a party I'd be going to this year was going to be 20s themed, so why not make the dress myself. I eventually gave up crazy(!) ebay auctions for original patterns, and fortunately found someone who reproduces vintage patterns. I got the pattern, which was my size, at Christmas and quickly put together a muslin to check the fit, which was perfect.

As already mentioned a lot of things got in the way*, but in March I could finally sit down and make the dress. It turned into a completely different dress than what I had imagined. I couldn't find the fabric I wanted, and ended up using fabrics that I had ordered swatches for at the same time just for fun.

Since I used sequined lame for the middle part, I had to skip the rows of pin tucks, unfortunately, but I decided that crushed velvet, silver lame and sequins are altogether great for a late 20s dress (also that it turned out black, which wasn't what I wanted at all. Black did during the 20s become acceptable for evening wear). The sequined fabric is actually very beautiful, but hard to photograph).

All in all I think it turned out nice, and I have actually worn it too. I'm also very happy that I in the end have a 1920s dress that is not a costume, and I feel that I'll be able to wear it on other occasions too, not just 1920s themed parties. :)

Hopefully it won't take too long before I can show you some more things too!

* A concussion**, among other things, which, since I couldn't do anything, in effect allowed me to finally steam press the wool I got a while back. I was so bored I did it several times just to pass time, so hopefully it won't shrink much more in the future! I used the method I mention in the post, that Gertie links to.

** From swing dancing! My Boogie-Woogie partner and I started off the dancing year with a successful bunny jump, which  unfortunately for me ended in a low hanging roof beam... :/
