sponge rollers & pincurl sets
i'm having trouble getting consistent results from my wet sets. i'm normally able to get a decent set with my smaller sponge rollers, but started experimenting with slightly larger ones (i think the most recent are 1 1/4"(?)) and the set came out ALL wrong.
i've read that you should alternate, like top row rolled down/second row rolled up/next rolled down, but i'm not sure if that's the best or if they should all roll down. for the record, i usually roll all down and i do use a setting lotion.
today, my hair seems to be falling out of the curl almost entirely and i have a wonky flip on one side and the rest just looks like crap. i'm not sure what to do other than ignore it because my hair is making me sad today. i did a hot roller set during the day and then pincurled it to sleep last night.
my hair is just past my shoulders, and i had it cut about a month ago with some layering to help with my curl sets. what do you guys do when setting with sponge rollers or pincurls? i'm having trouble figuring out a good pattern to get a nice set.

I roll the crown toward the back, bangs sort of angled, and everything else down.
The key is the brush out! :) that's the make or break for me. -

yeah, i think today especially, my hair just wasn't having it. when i use my smaller sponge rollers, i get a super tight curl, but it tends to be more easily tamed in the brush out. i have a feeling it's because i just used a deep conditioning treatment day before yesterday and my hair is extra soft (which is great, but bad for taking a curl maybe).
