Hello again! I had SO much fun writing up my first blog post here on Pinup Style yesterday that I knew I just had to sit down again today and write up another. Now I realize I'd said yesterday that my next post was going to be a review of my fall PUG order, but my oh so anticipated day off this week hasn't arrived yet so I still haven't had the time to take the pics for the review, it's still coming I promise :)

Anyways, I wanted to talk about an incredible contest I got to enter this summer, the Times Square Dunk Me contest. Clear Channel Spectacolor you see organized a contest back in May to build up hype for their interactive billboard in Times Square in New York City, one where if you tweeted the name of either a cheesecake looking woman or a beefcake looking fella when the billboard told you to, you could vote for whether the billboard showed a video of the guy getting dunked or the girl getting dunked.

The contest was to find a new dunk girl/boy to use in the billboard. The jaw-droppingly gorgeous Sabina Kelley was the temporary dunk girl in the billboard in the mean time, and she was the face of the contest while it was running. The organizers had put out a video telling interested dunk girls/boys what they had to do to be considered, which was make a unique video of themselves the highlighted your personality and explained why you'd be the perfect dunk girl/boy.

I honestly had NEVER really thought of becoming a dunk girl before, especially one in New York City. I mean, who knew that there was such a thing as a dunk girl in Times Square? There was something about this contest that just seemed so much fun though, like it was the kind of thing that you could always look back on and say that you did it and had a blast in the process.

I admit that I didn't jump right into the fray, though this turned out to be a good thing because it gave me the chance to watch some of the other audition videos that were coming in, videos that I used as a reference for what I could include in my own video and what I could even improve on.

So after I was able to get some VERY awesome friends together that were willing to drop what they were doing on a weeknight to help a friend with a crazy audition video, I put together some props and a script with my husband that I thought told my story of why a spunky gal like me deserved to be the next dunk girl in NYC.

I have to say that my one friend Kitty gave me the best advice in-between takes of the audition, she told me not to talk to the camera like I was asking to be the dunk girl, she told me to talk to them like I already was. I can honestly say that among all the audition videos that were submitted, mine was the only one that involved the auditionee (me) getting splashed with water at the end. It just seemed to make sense right? I thought so ;) Here below is a picture of my friend Kitty helping me into my Captain America USO Girl costume on the left, and me post dunk with my friends on the right. I'm sporting the vintage bikini top and high waisted short in red by the way, have I mentioned that that's my favourite bikini? ;)

So anyways, I submitted the video and sat back to see if it was accepted. Unfortunately, what I was the most worried about derailing the audition came to be. The rules section of the entry form had said that the contest was only open to American residents and those able to legally work in the United States. Sadly this excludes a Cannuck like me :( The people from Clear Channel were really nice when they broke the news though, even saying that they were glad to see the contest was getting so much feedback here in the Great White North. I wonder if they knew that there were even a few lovely ladies in the UK that wanted to audition too?

I wasn't mad though that they couldn't consider my audition though. I knew the rules going in, and thought that I'd give it a shot anyways. There was a time in my life not too long ago when I wouldn't have even tried, but I've really come to learn that if you want something you HAVE to try to get it. It a goal is meant to be then it's meant to be, if not, then hopefully you'll have at least learned something along the way and will come away stronger and smarter than you were before. So sadly I didn't win the contest to be the next dunk girl in Times Square, but I have to say that I had the best time making the audition video and I got so much positive feedback from others online.

A very adorable girl named Amanda did end up winning the contest, and as you can see in her own audition video here she is cute as a button. I believe she's already up on the billboard in TImes Square now so if you're ever in New York City be sure to keep an eye out for her up on the big screen ;)

As for me, well this doesn't mean the end of my aspirations to be a dunk girl... he he he. I'm going to be going to a couple of outdoor festivals this next spring in summer, a Steampunk based fair and a Pirate festival. I'm already looking into arranging a dunk tank show with the proceeds going to chairty for both events, we'll have to see how that turns out.

Now the last thing that I want to talk about relates back to what I'd said earlier about going for a goal even if it really does seem out of reach. One day, I want to be a PUG model :) Now believe me, I understand that it's not all glitz and glamour, far from it in fact. Still, I love Pinup Girl Clothing, I love the quality of the clothes, the styles, the community that's been built up around the outfits and I love the people who work so hard to make everything happen. I want to be a part of that, as I'm sure almost every girl on this site does too ;)

So with that said, I'm going for the goal of becoming a PUG model! Wish me luck everyone and thanks for reading. The next post will be my fall order review, I promise ;)
