I was just wondering how everyone got answers to all of their PUG questions before this site was ever started....
I am fortunate enough that my grandmother was a teenager during the 50's and is around to answer any question I have about the PUG style. I can ask her questions about clothes, shoes, hair, etc. I love looking at photos of her and getting ideas and I even own a few skirts and many many pettie coats that belonged to her that she saved for some reason. I even take her vintage shopping with me to help me decide on items to buy, she is like my vintage fashion consultant haha! since there is no one else around me that I know of that dresses in PUG she has been a wonderful help about a lot of things!
so what I was wondering is before this site was started how did you ladies find answers to questions about PUG style when you weren't sure about something?

I am so jealous of you having your grandmother there to be your guide, so to speak. I honestly don't know where I got the PUG style from... I've ALWAYS had an affinity for vintage anything - clothing , accessories, furniture... you name it - that I've always been told I was born in the wrong era. When I was younger though, you couldn't pay me enough to wear a dress; in high school, I was always in jeans, tees, and sweatshirts. I would roll out of bed and into clothes and out the door. It wasn't until I had my son that I started to wear dresses and take an interest in my clothing. And those styles that I always turned to were more often than not vintage styles because of my figure, and they flattered my figure more than any modern day style ever has. I have one jacket of my grandmother's - burnt orange real suede late 60s/early 70s style - that I am actually going to take in for repair (moth hole). As I've grown, I've looked more and more to vintage styling because it really does flatter my figure and it makes me feel beautiful wearing it. Now, I use the internet (which was just barely coming into it's own when I was growing up, lol) to research a particular style that I want. But I still have the knack for finding the vintage lines, silhouettes, and shapes of vintage style that I love. It wasn't until this site that I finally found the courage to full out vintage/PUG it, and since I have, my confidence and compliments have grown enormously.
Be grateful for your guide... I miss having my grandmother around, but know that she would fully approve of my style (and probably do the same as yours!).
So I help out a 92yr old family friend that I have known since I was born... She is extremely independent, so I only go with her for gardening needs or if she is collecting newspapers (she collects them for her Eastern Star chapter). If I could be 1/2 of her independence when I am her age, I would be extremely happy....
Anyway... Today, we were on the road to collecting papers and I decided to ask her if she ever did victory rolls or any of the popular 40s hairstyles - I have issues when doing mine, so I was hoping to get some advice. She had no idea what victory rolls were until I described them!! She said she had a blunt bob with bangs and that was that. She didn't worry about her hair, nor did her friends. She asked me why I was asking, and I told her it was because I couldn't ask my grandmother about it, so I figured I would ask her (my grandmother passed in 1996). That was the end of that discussion. We had a prior discussion about sweater guards (I lied and told her I wanted to get some Eastern Star ones for my cousin, but it was really for her birthday, I just wanted to be sure she didn't have any already). She had no use for them, didn't like them, never used them. Needless to say, I did not get them for her.
*sigh* I was hoping to find a living source to revel in my mastery of hair, ask questions about styling, etc, but no dice. Just thought I'd share (although I really don't know why)!
