Let's just if the world were to end, I be wearing my Mon Cheri in Olive ;) ...
Yay! This a great list to aspire to as an amateur PUG! :D
I would say that its all in the details :)
1. A fine carbon black eyeliner for those sexy catseyes.
2. A bandana/chiffon scarf to tie around your hair on those lazy hairdays.
3. Nailpolish for nicelooking nails.
4. Full and soft petticoats for your swingskirt and dress to add that extra swing to your walk.
5. Seamed stockings to go with all those sexy pencilskirts and dresses, its really the topping of the cake!
6. High waisted shorts as an alternative to those summerskirts.
7. Jewellery, perhaps a beautifull vintage brooch or a pearl neclace, anything to add a little more flare to an outfit.
8. Good underwear, make sure you have a wellfitted bra, it will make all tops looks better.
9. Bobbypins of good quality, you wont survive without them, needed in almost every hairdo.
10. Painted lips, probably the first thing that comes to mind of a pinupgirl :)
Love all the responses and I'm going to end up saying the same as many of you. However, my top ten
10. Fabulous heels
9. stockings and garter belt
8. Fantastic shapewear
7. Strand of pearls
6. Black high waisted pencil skirt
5. Playsuit or retro swimsuit
4. rollers, pins, and adorable hair scarf
3. Falsies I seriously cannot tell you how much that makes the transformation.
2. Red lips (I've been rocking those since I was 14)
1. Attitude. You have to embody that sexy pinup girl spirit embrace all of our icons of yesteryear. Mae West, Lili St. Cyr, Marilyn, Audrey, Rita, Bettie, whichever one you want, just be inspired and ooze personality and attitude!
I would take this list and change the pencil skirt to a swing skirt and and the falsies to a petticoat and I would be stoked on life with this list!
If I could only have one thing. It would be my bright red lips!!! Love them!
Oh i have tons of them!
Red lipsticks
TONS of black liquid eye liner
lots of pressed powder, preferrably in vintage packaging
seamed stockings
hot rollers
now, from all the things i've bought, i cant live without the following since i consider them the most pinup-y ones:
Glamour girl dress in leopard
Deadly Dames rock n roll wiggle dress (all patterns)
Lolita girl dress by Pinup Couture
Glamour swimsuit in leopard print
the marilyn swimsuits
BUT! im gonna have to agree with the lady above me that attitude is a big, BIG thing in order to be a perfect pinup girl.
and of course one should have a great knowledge about old hollywood, the fashion from the 40s-50s, as well as the movies.
Black Cherry Heidi. I'd wear it every day if I could get away with it. It was also my first PUG dress, so it was my "Gateway PUG", as it were. ;)
I'm still mourning the loss of my Netti Dress (asian print) over a year ago. That dress made the day. I keep the PUG pencil skirts (black and red with more to follow) on hand. They're a great staple to go with every thing. Oh, I just got the Leopard one. It's awesome! I have the deadly dames leopard capris as well but my bum is too big for them at the moment. I'm saving them for when they fit again (maybe never but I'm holding out). In addition to those well then there's another arsenal of accessories/supplies: red lips, black liner, nail polish (I always stick w/red or french tip), Eldorado Club or Classic Hardware jewelry, vintage pieces (rhinestone necklaces/brooches), foundation garments, seamed stockings, heels, and a Trophy Queen purse!
AMEN!!!! That is the one thing I cannot live without... that and a great mani/pedi!!! As someone who has lighter hair (goes from brunette to red to black and everywhere in between but blonde...(don't ask...)), I cannot do the black brow, complete with black liner - it's way to harsh for my face. I have the dark brown (aka espresso/coffee/brown-black...) liner/eyebrow combo. works better for lighter colored hair and some other complexions (i also am not blessed with the rosy cheeked light skin that alot of people are in PUG world).
To add to that, although I am new to PUG, a pencil skirt that really shows off your curves, great belts, a great set of foundation garments (although I am still waiting to hear about longline bras from the ladies here), hair accessories, sweater guards (i ordered one to check it out, fell in love and make my own or buy vintage now), funky tights/stockings, sweaters, an open mind to see the look in modern shopping retailers (since i work at one, i have been finding the look in the most amazing places - and they are not vintage items!), personality, personality and more personality.
and thanks to the ladies above for their lists... helps me to refine and define my newfound love!!
