I'm a technician at a small biotech company. I choose my outfits for work based on how much time I have to spend on my feet and how likely I am to get dirty. Most of the time it's jeans and sneakers. I work 50+ hours/week and don't go out much so I only get to break out really nice clothes for special occasions.

I don't feel worthy of adding to this thread, on account of all the amazing jobs you ladies have. I'm a stay at home mom. A cloth diapering, breastfeeding, the ol man goes to work, I cook n clean momma of 3;)
And may I add you ladies truly are amazing. I loved reading about all the interesting jobs you all have.

I do the same thing. Makes it difficult to want to dress up in my PUG clothes, though, since I really enjoy playing with my 3 year-old while his sisters are at school.

Hi! I'm a cashier at the local supermarket.I wear a uniform so no dressing up for me.I do,however,dress up whenever I go anywhere.Not too over the top,but when people go shopping in pajamas and slippers...

I run a lingerie shop on Etsy. However, it's not for a living (yet, hoping it will take off by the time I need it! I love it and don't want to stop!) I run it with my mommy and I help her with her own shop too. Right now it's just to support my shopping and gifting habit until I finish high school!

It is so cool to hear about what everyone does for 40+ hours a week! In school or as a kid, you think that everyone is a doctor, lawyer, scientist, teacher, librarian, performer or business-person (whatever that entails other than a tie and briefcase!).  It is sad that they don't inspire children to really follow their talents and interests rather than hegemonize them into "marketable" categories. As is illustrated here, there are tons of different career choices, and you can really write your own ticket.

I am in advertising. Technically, I am a script writer/ assistant producer, but that sounds fancier than it is. I have had jobs in print media, writing travel advertising and PR stuff, but I have also been a baker, barista, cook and library assistant. This is my first full time, salaried job with a title. 

Advertising is great from a style aspect. I dress up for work a lot and it is totally acceptable. We are a small agency, and most everyone else is a graphic designer or project manager. They wear jeans and t-shirts. I don't feel right in a jeans and t-shirt. I feel like people listen to me more carefully when I look put together. Plus it is really fun to run errands in a Julie Newmar body suit, or meet a caterer in 70's housewife mode!

I mostly write scripts for online and in-store ads and videos. Typically, for phones, tablets, and OSs. We also handle post-production and video editing stuff. Once we have the in-house studio set up I will be doing casting in addition to writing. 

Some days I spend 8 hours trying to find the perfect trashcan for a space. Other days, I try to make really boring or sub-par products sound interesting to a selected market. I use words like "Authenticity" and "Subtle Elegance" so flippantly that if I had a moral center, it would spiral in on itself in a black despondency, like gears on a fatalistic doomsday clock. But I don't, so it is like a puzzle. Sometimes I get to make people laugh. I also direct the storyboarding process to some extent, record voice-overs, and handle client relations. 

On a slow day, I like to sit and my desk with Songza on (The Black Lips station is great) and read while I wait for the next version of drafts to come in, or for a package, or phone call. 

There are weeks leading up to shopping explosions like Black Friday where everyone works 80 hours a week, people sleep in the studio, and weekends become unfamiliar and mythical beings seen only in 5am bleary-eyed mistiness. 

Mostly it is great. Although, I am envious of getting to handle antique books (I have a nice collection of first edition Graham Greenes), and I miss the prettiest parts of the day (I work at least 9 hours every day).

I own my a vintage and pin-up inspired custom couture clothing line called Dainty Rascal and I sell genuine vintage clothing. Its the best possible job for me, as I have an unlimited vintage wardrobe and I make my own perfectly fit costumes. I have photoshoots more than twice a week and I get free photographers who want the exposure and practice. My business supports me and my husband while modeling all the time :)

I am currently disable. I used to work at a bank. Started as a teller and worked all thur and up the bank. Then I got pregnant and blew three disk in my lumbar spine. Which pain has bee my boss for six years and surgery and steroid shots, nerve burning, and doctor appointments. But after this last surgery where I have a stent in my spine things are looking up. During all this I have been a single mom with semi help after a surgery from my mom. I am luckily enough to paid into disability that we do not struggle.
So my daughter would since three tell me what dress to take her to school in. She loves mommys PUG clothes.
I am relocating to Roanoke VA if anyone's down there in the summer. I plan to go back to school.

I'm an "IT girl" (a programmer) at a large pharma company.

I like nice clothes in general (i.e., I don't go for "vintage" in particular; it's just that I often find vintage clothes that I like). For work, I stick to fairly modern "business" attire. My colleagues (all males) mostly dress very casually; that's par for the course in this field (even some of the manager types are very casually dressed around here).

My hubby also works in this field, but he gets to work at home every day.  Interestingly, he tends to dress up a bit (shirt and tie, at least).
