I thought that it might be fun to have us all do a bit of show and tell. And since this group is all about accessories I thought it would be fun and interesting to show photos which feature an accessory and then to talk about it. You could tell the story of how and where you bought it, why you like it, how much it cost, etc. Since this is my idea I just have to get the ball rolling.

The item that I want to show off is a gold purse that I have. You can see by the tag inside the purse that it was an I Magnin product. For those of you who don't know, I Magnin was a West Coast based department store, an upper end department store. They have been totally out of business for at least 20 years. I bought this purse at one of my all time favorite thrift stores, Palos Verdes Resale Thrift Store. It is a small unassuming little place. Lots of their items are run of the mill things you'd find at any thrift store. But they are located in a rather well to do area and they must get lots of donations from families after a loved one passes away. They have some incredible jewelry. And some of the most fabulous clothing with some of the best prices I've ever seen. I won't go into telling you about all of the great things I have bought there. I will tell you that I got the purse there. I don't remember the exact price but it certainly cost me less than $25.

The little bag is so fabulous. In it was the original mirror, which is a bit discolored. And the original coin purse also was inside. As with most small purses, I still am amazed about how little it is. The is room for a compact and for a lipstick... and that is about it. Although the night that I used it I also squeezed my keys into it.

So the two photos of me with the purse were taken early last summer. I went to a touring performance of La Cage Aux Folles featuring Mr Suntan, AKA George Hamilton. The gold dress with the little bolero jacket was bought at Nordstroms Rack. And the dress was a steal, about $50. (BTW, this was just before I made my first PUG purchase.) The large photo was taken outside the theatre. The smaller one of me was inside, where promo photos are taken of celebrities. I went to the play by myself. I asked a young man to take my photo outside and he kindly obliged. The other photo was taken by another young man who invited me to the staff party (No, I did not go.) I met these two gals who wanted to get autographs of the actors and that was what I did afterwards instead of going to the cast party. I know, I know... I should have gone to the party.

So I have gotten this thing started. Now ladies, tellus some stories, show us some pics.

I have got this little ring which is very cute. There isn't too much of a story behind it except that I have a hypoallergy to nickel meaning that I can only wear steel. It's actually really hard to find cute steel rings and this one was just $7 so I had to have it. :) .  I love your bag. It's so fabulous and in such great condition for being vintage!

Brandy that ring is extremely cute. Do you wear it with any specific types of outfits or when feeling in a certain type of mood?

I wear it with my swing dresses and pencil skirts, and my leopard wedges (which are also very cute), mostly when I feel like being fun which come to think of it is far more often then I feel like being boring. I actually wish it were a little more vintage looking because it's very shiny right now but steel is always shiny unfortunately :)  Let's see what else I can dig up. (shoes of course)

I also have these super cute shoes which I picked up for 7,50 (that's about $9.70). I was looking for a pair of cute everyday shoes and these fit the bill perfectly and were on sale. They had a second pair at the time and I really wish I had bought them. I actually have arthritis really bad in my knees, knuckles, and hips and the elevated heel actually helps me to walk with my knees straight. Plus these look great with swing dresses and jeans so whatever I feel like.

These actually belonged to a very dear friend who happens to have the same shoe size as me. She's a singer for a band named Soraia and is very good. They have actually opened for Bon Jovi multiple times. I haven't gotten to see her in person for about two years because she's on the other side of the planet but she decided to send me her shoes which i had loved every time she wore them (after she hadn't worn them for nearly a year). Sharing with friends is a great way to repurpose/re-love your clothes and I really love them although you can't wear them with anything with print.

these are my oldest pair of shoes and I adore them. I picked them up quite by accident on one of those sneak peaks into my favorite shoe store when I wasn't supposed to buy anything. They were sitting on the top of a rack without a box and have a messed up size marking on the bottom. As a result they were 5 euro and they fit perfectly. Since then I've had the heels recapped twice and can literally wear them with everything.

(last photo of shoes) these were meant to be my ' big'  purchase for the month because they were 60 british pounds or $91 but when I went to go buy them they were on sale and I walked away with them for $19! I was so happy that I actually bought a dress for $20 too and still hadn't even spent half of what I had intended to buy. The heel is very wide so they are nice for walking in all day and they are simply to die for with pencil skirts or cigarette pants. I adore buttons by the way so they were just perfect for me.

actually maybe I'd better post photos of other things later otherwise my post might take up  more than one page..... oops.speaking of shoes, your gold ones that you are wearing in the photo look very vintage?

Brandy thanks so much for posting these shoe pics and telling us a bit about them. They all look great. And I always am interested to hear interesting shopping stories. And i am particularly interested when I read stories about buying things on sale!

Oh, about those gold pumps I am wearing in the pic, they are not vintage. I have probably had them 4 or 5 years. But I must admit that I cannot remember where I bought them or how much they cost.  And I can tell you that they are quite comfortable to wear.

Since I am writing this on Sunday night and I am just doing a bit of contemplating about things, I thought I'd share a thought or two. As you can see this is a gold outfit. Somehow over the past couple of years I have really developed an affinity for gold colored clothing. It has nothing whatsoever to do with wanting to be wealthy. I think that it must be that I associate gold outfits with the glamorous women of the Golden Age of Hollywood and those fantastic female singers of the Fifties and early Sixties. As we all know, wearing pin up gets one attention. But wearing gold pin up I have usually reserved for special occasions. And I guarantee you that I have gotten attention wearing it. When I wanted to make my name a bit more pin-uppy, the "gold standard" just kind of came to me. And it was easy for me to just use the last initial of my name... and there you are.

I am still hoping that this topic can generate some interesting replies. And so I am making another addition to it. I don't know how I had such luck, but within the space of a couple of days I made some incredible scores on some vintage items. I got dresses, a jacket, shoes, a fascinator/hat, a Hawaiian shirt and some suspenders. Since this group is about accessories I will just show off the two items that are accessories.

First of all, here is a net hat/fascinator thingee. I am sure that there is a more accurate name for it You can see that the price tag is $14.95. Well the thrift store which had it was having a half off sale. So it actually only cost me $7.50. I already know which PUG dress I will wear it with. And I will wait to show you a photo of me wearing it when I have got the whole ensemble on.

Another half price score I made was at the same thrift store on these purple heels. They were listed at $5.95 so they only cost about 3 bucks!

I think that I will wait to show off my other purchases the next time I do a blog post. But let me tell you that I bought two incredible vintage dresses yesterday and neither cost me more than twenty dollars. Shopping is fun. Shopping while saving money is even more fun! I spent about $65 in total for all of my purchases in the past two days. I love my new items and I have not even worn them yet, well except to try on that is.

oh my those are so cute! As for your previous post you definitely do look 24K ;) The hat is really just darling, it actually looks easy to make as well, I wonder how old it is? Any idea.

And what brand are the shoes. The studs just make it as they add a lot of interest to an otherwise basic shoe. I think they look perfect for wearing with floral prints :) Very pinup style heel too! You should wear them with cuban heel stockings with backseams the look will be perfect. I'm actually kind of obsessed with shoes but I really only let myself buy fabulous ones because I have very limited space in my closet.

I don't know who told you that suspenders aren't accessories but they really are :)

I guess you are right about the suspenders. LOL! The hat does look like it is probably home made, and maybe not that old. I guess that one would just starch the netting, shape it and then add the accessories.

Cuban heel stockings with those shoes are a "YES"! And I just went in looked in my closet. (I won't even talk about how stuff is packed in.) But I just found that I bought some other shoes with the same logo a few days ago from a fashion school (FIDM) outlet store. OK, I just figured it out. The shoes are by Torrid. Amazingly as the result of my topics in this group about weird shoe sizes, Tashmahal77 suggested I go to Torrid to check out their larger shoe sizes. Well I went in a store, tried on shoes but none fit to my liking. Those did not fit, but this purple pair and the two other pairs I bought both fit! Amazing!
