OK, so I have no intention of becoming a model, but as you can see from the photo, I need some tips on what to do when having my photo taken!

My father may have given me my love of photography, but he was an atrocious people photographer himself, so I learned early on being in front of the camera is not fun, and not only does this displease anyone who wants to take my photo, it also makes me kind of sad that I have some form of having-my-photo-taken aversion; so any and all (nice!!) tips and advice is welcome.

This is KiKi Marie by the way,  I've been banned by the asshole overlords!  You need to relax your face and posture a little, and practice an aloof less forced look. My wife is the same way.  I have to take 10 to get 1 because she tries to hard.  The best pictures are when someone isn't paying attention.  Your beautiful and have a rockin' body, so just relax and don't force it.

Love the shoes!!

Thank you, for the advice and the shoe-love :)

That makes a lot of sense; I'll have to get my tripod and remote dug out :)

So now my dear I am commenting over here! Anyway, first of all, that dress looks terrific on you. I will never model professionally. There are lots of reasons for that including the fact that I am just too old. But now I have paid to have pin up photoshoots, four times I think. ( As a matter of fact, I just had a photoshoot on Friday.) But most of the pics I have are taken by my camera using the timer and a tripod, with some help at times from friends and strangers. Doing the photoshoots and working with professional photographers helped me so much. It made me believe that I made the right move in going more deeply into the retro/glamour/pin up look. I learned lots of tips about pointing my feet, holding my body and using my personality to project something into the camera and onto a photo. I belong to another pin up site which has mostly members who are professional photographers and models. I don't find it very helpful. But they made a list about what kinds of photos they will publish on their site. I don't agree with everything they require but most of what they say is very useful. (BTW, that site is PInup Lifestyle). One more thing, the more photos that you have taken of yourself, the better you will get at presenting yourself. You are really beautiful... I can tell by your pictures!

Thank you for the kind compliments Aoife.  I'll check out Pinup Lifestyle as all help is good at the moment! :)

I've been thinking about having a photoshoot done, but I fear that finding anyone locally who knows about pinup/retro type looks and/or photography may be a bit difficult!  Not to mention my wardrobe needs expanding first...  Having said that, there are some pretty good boudoir photographers so they may be aware, just lacking in clientèle - I don't imagine it will hurt to ask.

And in the meantime, I have a tripod and will use it more!

I think you look great!
For me, if I'm out and about with friends, invariably I'm having fun, so I try to show that in my face and posture if someone takes a photo.

I also enjoy making over friends and taking photos of them, and I'm forever saying 'Tits up and out!' suddenly it's like they have permission to be proud of their body, and generally it gets them to relax enough to get a great smile out of them.

Mind you, I'm also a fan of making ridiculous faces when everyone else is being sensible, so you might want to take my advice with a grain of salt!

Haha, "tits up and out!" is a good reminder to stand up straight!

Thank you for the "tits up and out!" I will have to remember that the next time I have my picture taken... I am in the same boat as Sammi when it comes to taking natural looking, happy pictures... even my selfies need help! Love reading all of the advice on here; please keep it coming, girls! And THANK YOU SAMMI for bringing this up!

I know how you feel - I don't mind having my photo taken so much, but it's having to look at the outcome I don't like!!! You have a lovely smile (funnily enough, smiling and NOT looking special needs and/or pain is my biggest photo problem!) - so a winning smile is something to be envious of IMO!! You've got a rocking figure too which helps :P. The only thing I would comment on is that your arms kinda look a little lost for something to do. I did watch a programme a while ago (I think it was actually about red carpet walks/poses) and they suggested having one arm by your side, and the other positioned a few inches below your hip bone. I believe it the hand would be on the hip/thigh you are balancing your weight on - so on the right leg (your left) in this photo. I don't remember the exact rationale for why you shouldn't place your hand directly on the hip itself, but I think they said it lengthens the body.
Maybe google a few red carpet pics to get some ideas. Most of them look super posed and a bit artificial (and it's funny how there definitely appears to be a posing formula: there must be a posing school they attend!) - but you can always try them and tone them down to look more natural.
