It seems like most people interested in pin up style favor rockabilly music or songs from the 1950's. How about you? Has your pin up style influenced your music interest, or vise versa?
I've always been a fan of classic country and rockabilly music (1950's style rockabilly, Johnny Cash/Elvis Presley style.) My first pin up photo session was for pictures for my first album "Lonesome Time." =) If you like rockabilly music, check it out at www.angeladodson.com or "like" it on facebook https://www.facebook.com/angeladodsonmusic. <3

I love your sound Miss Angela! Its like country flavored rockabilly fried chicken!!
I have to say I listen to a little bit of everything as well. I love rockabilly music, like Reverend Horton Heat but I also love oldies too like Elvis, Sinatra, Louis Prima is awesome. I like jazz- Squirrel Nut Zippers are one of my faves. I am a HUGE fan of Nine Inch Nails as well. I also like Lady Gaga and some Flo Rida songs, damn his songs always get stuck in my head! "white girl got an ass I gotta see it"
I have recently started listening to I Heart Radio and I love it, I have discovered so much new music!
Jennifer, I love your description of my music haha. Thank you. What an eclectic taste! I really love the 1950s era where rockabilly and rock n roll began...Johnny Cash (I'm a huge Cash fan), Elvis, Wanda Jackson, Janis Martin, etc.
I must admit I don't think I've listened to much music from the 50's, but I do like what I've heard, be it "real" 50's or a more recent take on it (you're album is on my 'list' Miss Angela ;) )
I grew up listening to stuff from the 60's & 70's - that was what my parents listened to and the radio was on a lot - especially as we did a lot of travelling when I was younger.
When I got my first Walkman I think all of my tapes were things my brother & sister copied for me - the Human League, Blur, Oasis, M People.
My taste in music now ranges from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Nirvana, Nine Inch Nails, Guns n Roses, to Thirty Seconds to Mars, Linkin Park, Daft Punk, via Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Disturbed and more!
I love Johnny Cash's cover of NIN's 'Hurt' (and have had the discussion with my OH about it being a NIN cover and not a Cash cover!) and currently have a list of "music I'm missing out on" about as long as my arm which I hope to start making shorter soon.
haha! My husband and I painted the lyrics for 'Hurt' on my living room wall and I had to argue with everyone that came to my house that it was NOT a Johnny Cash song!
The Hurt cover was great...and the video they did to go with it was an amazing tribute to the life and music of Johnny Cash. :)
I love that so many people on here are open to such a variety of music.
Like everyone so far I seem to be pretty eclectic, I'm mostly a rock n roll (guns n roses, nirvana, NiN, Aerosmith, ACDC, Led Zeppelin, this list could go on for years) type of gal. I grew up listening to 70s rock with my dad I guess. I do really love a lot of older stuff, especially 40s and 50s blues, Howlin Wolf, Memphis Minnie, townsend, love them all. But I also listen to metal like Cradle of Filth, Swallow the Sun, Dawn of Demise, Autopsy, that sort of thing, although I'm more into melodic/doom metal than death.
Rockabilly type stuff I also seem to have a lot of. Cash and Elvis definitely, I've also got some 50s song collections that I've managed to pick up here and there and I love all of it. Jazz too, Etta James, Fitzgerald, Sinatra, Frankie Lane, Ben Miller
I would have to say that no, pinup hasn't influenced my taste in music I'm just naturally eclectic and tend to like a lot of different things starting from just about the 20s. But I would say that sometimes being interested in a decade will make it easier to find this type of music and it's hard not to love
Love the Etta James and Frank Sinatra stuff too!
And I was raised on Aerosmith and Bob Jovi and still go back to those songs sometimes. :)
Well my tastes are REALLY eclectic. Baroque to Bruce Springsteen. Congolese Soukous music to Cajun/Zydeco. Fifties torch singers to Fifties Rockabilly. OK, OK, I could go on and on. I love lots of different music. And when I get the time, my preferred leisure activity is going to hear live music. Did I mention Balkan folkdance music? Edith Piaf? Patsy Cline? As I said, I could go on and on.
My favourite music? Oh wow... that's a tough one. Growing up in a latina my mother raised me on latin music and I absolutely loved dancing to salsa music when I was younger. Of course I'm a child of the 80's so nothing gets me dancing faster than Michael Jackson, Madonna & the Dirty Dancing soundtrack.
The rocker girl in me loves jumping up and down to Guns & Roses, Bon Jovi, Scorpions, Aerosmith & Nirvana. The clubber girl in me that grew up watching Electric Circus on Much Music every Friday night will ALWAYS love the 90's dance anthems by Haddaway, Culture Beat, Whingfield, DJ Company & Love Inc.
Of course I'm also one of those girls who screamed her head off in the 90's for the New Kids on the Block, NSYNC and my absolute favourite boy band of all time the Backstreet Boys. I also knew every Spice Girls song off by heart and loved dancing to Stop!
The crazy clubber girl in me loves twerking to Dev, Ludacris, T-Pain & Missy Elliot, the burlesque performer in me can love any kind from Dinah Shore to Brigitte Bardot and every and all things in between and yes, the pinup in me loves to swing dance to older acts like the Andrew Sisters & Benny Goodman with newer acts like Brian Setzer and Paris Swing Box and I LOVE the rockabilly acts from Buddy Holly to Dick Dale (who I got to see perform in Vegas last year).
The goofy college girl that fell in live with the European discotheques will always love and remember DJ Sammy, Groove Coverage, Cascada, Loft & more recently David Guetta.
I especially love artists like Lady Gaga and Katy Perry who inspire me to be proud and believe in myself and lead by examples in confidence and pride (sometimes I need a song to remind me of that once in a while).
I also Tahitian, hula and belly dance to tribal music from around the world. For pinup photoshoots though I definitely prefer to pose to swing music, rockabilly or even slow dance big band.
I hope that answers your question Miss Angela :)
