Hello Hello! I want to start a discussion specifically on weight loss:

I love the Goal Obtainment stuff that Ava Adames has been posting, but I want to create a space specifically for real-world ideas for long term weight loss.

About me:

I am Alicia, I've struggled to stay consistent with my exercise and food intake over the years, but I'm slowly creating the kind of lifestyle I want to have for the rest of my life! I know my body just doesn't like to get below plus sized, and that's fine. If I make it lower, that's great, but I like my curves :)

I work a really physical job that is about to end- I'm under contract with Habitat for Humanity as an AmeriCorps member. I lead volunteers to help homeowners paint and repair their homes. It is a lot of exercise, but not the same as a workout regimen.

In the last 2 years I've lost 25 pounds (and want to lose about 30 more) Through a gradual shift in food intake and the exercise I get at work. Now, I want to add on cardio and other strength training.

My first goals are: Work on core strength and cardiovascular endurance.

Anyway, I want to come up with a plan for after this summer to stay active, and I thought "Hey! why don't I start a discussion about it on the PUG Guide to Exercise and Nutritional Plans! I bet there are other people with experience and ideas to share!"

How about you? What's your story? What are your goals?

P.S. Here is a before and current pic.

Awesome! I'm putting all of these awesome posts of yours into word files and printing them off as soon as I get to work. This is so exciting!

My Fiance and I are re-moving in together in about a month (He had to move for work, and now I'm moving too) and we have committed to each other to (re)start a regular exercise regimen and to be more consistent with our diets. These are exactly the tools I need!

Thank you!

Do you have any tips for dealing with a picky eater for a spouse?

I'm talking, pepperoni pizza, burgers or tacos every night picky- WITHOUT vegetables! I've gained some headway in sneaking spinach into his meals. He's looking at starting a brown rice and chicken breast diet, but that doesn't really help with the fruits and veggies thing.

(I know it's extreme, but this is his biggest downfall, and as far as downfalls go, it's workable)

Hey Alicia, have you tried logging your food and excercise?  I am on "My Fitness Pal" which is a website as well as a phone ap.  I've had some decent success with that as long as I actually do it.  You can have friends on there etc so it's kind of motivational.

That's a great idea! I've started doing food logs the old fashioned way, but this would work really well! I'll definitely give it a try! Thank you!

You just motivated me to get on there and start tracking again, I have been lazy.  If you decide to join MFP please add me as a friend.  Just send me an inbox and I'll give you my profile name on there.  The more motivation the better!

Luckily when I decided to make a change in my diet my hubs went along with it.  He's not a picky eater thankfully.  Yes he loves junk food - he's a pastry whore I tell you - but he tends to eat those things at work since I don't keep them in the house often.  He's lost weight himself (not that he needed to) and he actually has become so acclimated to eating healthy, fresh, as organic as possible food that when we go to my parent's house he has a hard time eating there lol - my parents aren't on the healthy, fresh, organic train yet - I'm working on them but my mother still buys Kraft singles.  :-)

Congrats on your weight loss!!  I started losing weight in January 2010.  It took me about 18 months to lose 80 lbs.  I did it at first by joining sparkpeople.com and keeping a food log and counting calories.  I slowly added in exercise - which amounted to Pilates or walking (when the snow melted) a few times a week.   At first I ate things like Smart Ones, Lean Cuisines, etc. but then I started educating myself about how much preservatives and sodium are in those things that I made the shift to eating a cleaner, fresher, more organic diet - and I watched a few documentaries that scared the bejeezus out of me.  I've been maintaining my weight loss for about a year now.  I'd like to lose about 10 more pounds, tone up and still maintain my curves.  Here is my before and after pic (excuse the ugly Christmas sweater - I was at a party haha):

WOW! Awesome! go you! I think the christmas sweater really makes it, personally. I have an amazing sparkly sweater of my own.

The "cleaner eating" is really what sparked the weight loss. I noticed when i wasn't eating "healthy choice" frozen lunches, and replacing them with things like nuts and fruits and vegetables, I didn't want to eat as much.

These last few weeks I haven't been online as much because I've been on an adventure out in the woods, and then playing catch up at work. I'm lucky enough to have a really physical job, but in some ways it has draw backs. I'm genuinely tired when I get home from work, so how does one power through the tired and keep moving?I haven't quite gotten there yet. I'm got on my days off- today I walked 3.5 miles, it was beautiful, all be it very hot.
