Hey ladies & dolls -
I have always thought that cigarette pants were supposed to be tight, which is why they were given the name... So, I just got my first pair - not true vintage (because seriously, I don't have the $100 bucks to spend on them! And the bidding goes that freaking high! Anyway...), but from Talbot's, a very nice sagey/olive green. They do hit my natural waist (and since I have a short torso, it looks slightly like they go as high as I think they should) and fit like a glove (a loose one) with my measurements, which is not an easy feat. Anyway, they are not tight. I am currently mentally debating as to whether I should take them to the tailor's (I think I will be paying for someone's braces by the end of the year!) and have them taken in or if I should leave them as is. So what I would like to know is what the general consensus is about the fit of a true cigarette pant (even though these aren't true vintage, I would like them to appear as close to it as possible). Pictures would also be helpful!!! I'll post my pics tomorrow, but wanted to throw this out to our night owls for some reading while I am coloring my hair before work in the morning (going back to red... ahem, dark aburn).
Thanks Ladies! Oh, and if anyone is so inclined to share, why the hell are the Pussy bows named such? Is it a Pussy Galore thing (haven't seen the movie, so I'm just winging it here)? Named by a man obsessed? I don't get it (I've been looking at these making a comeback, so I thought I'd try to figure it out in my spare time... beats solving the national debt and the economic recession... =) ).
Double O Jenn =)

Cigarette pants are meant to be fairly tight, though straight as oppossed to tapered like modern "skinny" jeans. So they should be tight in the thigh, but not super tight around the calf or the ankle. You can post a picture to gauge fit better :) Usually pants look better NOT skin tight any way, just because then you can avoid the dreaded muffin top. I find that since I've been losing weight, I I wait until my pants are completely falling off before going down in size...I dont want to look like I'm squeezing into a sausage casing ;)
I have no idea why they are named that! did people in the past tie bows around their cats necks like that? Who knows! Maybe they were just brainstorming for names, "its a bow, that women wear, on a shirt...hmmm", "I know lets call it a pussy bow!", "Great idea, women will love that, women like cats!". This is the conversation I imagine happened :)
of course it is, with cigarettes lit, smoke filled in the room, and shirtsleeves rolled up. yep, can see it coming in an ep of mad men soon. lol...
i do the same thing with my pants - i literally am at the point where if a belt won't fix it, they either go to the tailor's or they get donated. muffin top /=/ PUG!!!
hopefully the pics i posted can give you a better idea of what i'm working with... thanks for the help!
um, ok... that was a weird posting place. anyways, ^ is the front of them. Here's the back: (keep in mind that I'm contortioning so I can shoot the pic in the mirror, so where there's pull, there in reality is no pull).
